"Steve Vavrek has delivered for Monroe. He is the rare leader that actually accomplished what he said he would-- a budget passed on the first try that balances the needs of taxpayers and students, road repairs and infrastructure improvements, and competent, responsible town government. Steve Vavrek has proven he is a great leader for a great town."--Dan Debicella, Former CT State Senator

| Why I am Running for Town Selectman |
|
I am running for First Selectman because my family and I love living in Monroe and I am concerned about its future. Monroe has had 14 consecutive years of Democratic administrations. The legacies of those administrations are streets and roads in disrepair, inferior economic development efforts and most recently a town wide re-evaluation process that was poorly planned and feebly executed. It is time for a new direction and I promise to provide it. As a Monroe resident for 21 years, I have served in a number of elected and volunteer positions including: Town Council Vice Chair, Board of Finance, Vice Chairman Parks and Recreation, and Trumbull-Monroe Health District – to name a few. I am also a member of a number of business organizations, including the Rotary Club of Monroe, the Monroe Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of Monroe's Business Networking International. My wife Teri and I have raised our two daughters in Monroe. Both Jen and Jessie are Masuk graduates. Our girls were active in soccer, which lead me to get involved with the local youth program. I have been an AYSO coach as well as AYSO Regional Commissioner and Monroe Soccer Club Coaching Director. Teri and I are also small business owners. We publish Coffee News, a community newsletter designed to help local businesses grow through affordable advertising. I have a wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience about our town and its government. I understand the dynamics of our small-town government, the business development challenges our town faces, and the expectations of our citizens, both growing families and empty-nesters. As First Selectman of Monroe, I promise to be fiscally responsible and spend tax dollars wisely, to develop a comprehensive plan to fix our roads, to make the re-evaluation process transparent and fair, and to make local government responsive to the needs of our citizens. I look forward to campaigning throughout Monroe and exchanging views and ideas with everyone. Steve Vavrek Republican Candidate for Town Selectman |
